Summer is soon to be upon us and with that in mind....the dreaded heat rash!
But are are a few helpful suggestions to keep it at bay ... ;)
Heat rash, also known as prickly heat, is a result of blocked sweat ducts causing sweat to leak into the skin rather than out. A heat rash, as opposed to an allergic reaction, will manifest little red dots – evidence of inflammation at the entrance of sweat glands.
When exposed to heat, a “pins and needles” sensation will be felt. Being overweight predisposes one to heat rash due to the accompanying increase in perspiration and folds in the skin.
Try to stay in air-conditioned areas for a couple of days to avoid sweating, in order for your ducts to recover.
Use a mild, antibacterial soap and rinse and dry skin thoroughly. Dissolve a few tablespoons of baking soda in your bath to ease the itching until the rash is healed. Likewise, you can also apply Calamine lotion.
To alleviate as well as prevent heat rash, wear loose clothing made from cotton or polypropylene and avoid nylon and polyester. This will keep moisture away from your body.
Dust your body with an absorbent powder, especially during Summer.
