Ayurveda advocates the following diet guidelines:
Eat at a similar time each day. Breakfast should be round about sunrise, lunch when the sun is at its highest, and dinner by sunset (no later than 7:30pm).
Try to focus on and enjoy your meals. As appetite and digestive function fluctuate according to the seasons, select food according to the season, as well as your specific constitution and imbalances.
In Spring less food is required than in Winter; Summer requires more cooling foods; heavier and warmer, well-cooked foods are required during Autumn and Winter.
Heavier food, such as potatoes, bread and rice, should be eaten during the beginning of the day, and lighter food, such as vegetables and juices, in the evening.
Raw food should not be eaten at the same time as cooked food. Fruit should be eaten on its own and according to the season.
Plenty of fluids should be drunk throughout the day, and small sips of water with meals. Lots of fresh herbs and spices should be used when cooking. You should use those associated with your specific dosha.
