The Oaks at Ojai was started by Sheila Cluff. She has long been an advocate for aerobic exercise, particularly the benefits of walking. Says Sheila, “Once you are hooked on walking, other activities may seem mild compared to your love affair with fresh air, forward momentum, and the strong, youthful-looking body that comes with this healthful addiction.” She says that everyone should try to walk 20-60 minutes at least every other day, and that it is a great idea to reward yourself with a new walking outfit when you reach a walking goal.
Exercise helps control the risk of disease, strengthens bones, reduces depression, and improves your sex life. Maintaining quick breathing (but not gasping) for 3.5 miles with a concentration on excellent posture will benefit both your heart and your waistline. “Walk to plan, think, ponder, pray and meditate. A fully oxygenated body in motion frees and clears the mind like nothing else,” says Sheila. And that is really the philosophy at The Oaks.
